1911: Ridgeons is founded by Cyril Ridgeon from his own home in St Barnabas Road in Cambridge.

1925: Cyril’s son Elliot joins and the business becomes Cyril Ridgeon & Son, expanding after the First World War with the increase in house building and development of roads around Cambridge.

1942: Elliot Ridgeon becomes Managing Director after the death of his father Cyril. In the post war years the business develops and opens its first branch in 1946 on Broad Street in Cambridge and in 1948 a yard is purchased on Creek Road in Cambridge for Building Materials, Timber, Boards, Heating and Plumbing products.

1958: the Saffron Walden Building Materials Supply Co. Ltd. is bought and becomes part of the Ridgeon Group. David Ridgeon, grandson of Cyril, becomes Managing Director of the associate company.

1973: David Ridgeon becomes Managing Director and chairman of the Ridgeon Group on the death of his father Elliot. Under his stewardship the Group continues to expand through both acquisitions and organic growth, with an additional 15 branches opening before David retires in 2011.

2006: Ridgeon Group launches Anglia Tool Centre as a stand-alone power tool brand, trading online and through branches.

2011: The Ridgeon Group celebrates its centenary.

2015: Plumbstock is launched as a dedicated brand for heating and plumbing tradespeople.

2017: Ian Northen is appointed as CEO after seven years as Group Finance Director, during which time Ridgeons was named in The Sunday Times Profit Track 100, a league table of Britain’s private companies with the fastest-growing profits. Dalton Phillips is appointed as Chairman of The Ridgeon Group. Ridgeon’s re-launch online with a new e-commerce website.

Today the group has 26 merchant branches, 19 Plumbstock locations, of which 7 are standalone branches and 8 standalone ATC branches plus 2 further concessions.
